The Asteroids - What Are They?

The Asteroid Belt
NASA Space Dust Image Gallery

Discovered in the early 1800's, the Astreroids are small planetary objects that lie in a region of the Solar System known as the Asteroid Belt.

The Asteroids are floating in space primarily between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

The first four discovered were Ceres, Pallas Athene, Juno, and Vesta. They are the largest of the Asteroids and were initially thought to be planets. When it became apparent that there were many thousands more of these objects and that they were relatively small in size, they were reclassified as Asteroids.

Astrologically, the Asteroids correspond with the feminine ideals and concepts described by the mythical Goddesses of Mount Olympus. They serve as agents of personal transformation in moving from personal to collective awareness.

In the astrological community, Demetra George is, without a doubt, the premier authority on astersoids.  Her book, Asteroid Goddesses, is highly recommended reading.
